Trenord: for sustainable tourism in Lombardy

A growing focus on sustainable tourism cannot but involve the transport sector, especially rail, which is always well represented at BIT Milano and which already sees Trenitalia and Trenord confirmed among its exhibitors.

Trenord, which today transports more than 750,000 passengers, commuters and tourists daily, has been engaged for years in a process of strong renewal of regional transport in Lombardy.

The company's commitment is recognised by the region itself, which on 27 November approved a resolution to entrust it with the management of regional and local rail services until 2033. "The aim," announced regional transport councillor Franco Lucente on the occasion, “is to bring the rail service to increasingly high quantitative and qualitative standards.”

The renewal of the fleet, the growth of digital services, technological innovation, the search for quality in the offer and the constant relationship with the territories represent key elements for contributing in a profitable way to the sustainable development of the transport market, and with it, the tourism market.

“At a time when sustainability, including environmental sustainability,” explains Leonardo Cesarini, sales director, “has become a central element in the dialogue and choices of customers and companies, the train, as a green means of transport par excellence, is once again becoming a central vector of mobility and the construction of travel solutions, including tourism. As a company,” continues Cesarini, “we are witnessing the growing interest, which we see in the numbers, not only in proximity tourism but also and above all in integrated and sustainable tourist mobility solutions.”

Between January and September this year, 8.5 million passengers travelled on Lombardy's trains to tourist destinations at weekends and during the summer, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2022. “Travel proposals combined with experiences,” continues Cesarini, “built with our partners (for lakes, amusement parks, ski resorts, trade fairs and major events), are increasingly popular with customers. More services, an enhanced offering and greater integration and user-friendliness are the factors we should already be betting on today.”

Trenord will be present at BIT Milano for the third consecutive year. “We see BIT as a great stage to tell stakeholders, operators and enthusiasts of the sector about the path we are taking to promote sustainable tourism in Lombardy through our products and services: Gite in Treno, our leisure brand for short trips, Malpensa Express, mobility initiatives for major events. We want to continue to have them discovered and used more and more!”
